Playability & Condition:

The action has been slightly raised to minimize string buzz while preserving authentic flamenco response. This is a well-maintained working instrument, with minor cosmetic wear consistent with age and use. Professionally repaired hairline cracks are visible on the body end and bass side of the fretboard. A historic repair to the headstock and tuner barrel modifications are present, alongside signs of refinishing. Despite these, the guitar remains structurally solid and tonally exceptional.

Crafted by legendary luthier Santos Hernández in Madrid, this 1934 flamenco guitar represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of Spanish guitar-making history. With its light cypress body and spruce top, this instrument offers the crisp, woody resonance so sought after by traditional flamenco players. It is hand-signed by the maker both on the interior label and beneath the soundboard, and bears Hernández’s official luthier’s stamp on the inside neck foot—hallmarks of authenticity from one of Spain’s most revered builders.

The guitar was acquired in 1998 from a prominent dealer and has since formed part of The Granary Collection. Fully signed and stamped. It was notably featured on track 9 of The Sound of Spain album by Granary Guitars, performed by David Merrin.

A Flamenco Player’s Dream

David Merrin writes: “I don’t think I would ever get tired of playing a guitar like this … a flamenco player’s dream.”

Have been carefully serviced by David Whitman in 2025.

Don’t miss the chance to own this expressive, historic flamenco guitar from one of Spain’s most iconic makers—an heirloom-quality instrument ready to inspire for generations. And this is one of the most well-preserved and nice sounding example on the market.
